| Kineo Open Source updates Moodle build with new extensions |
|
We are happy to announce that we are extending our standard hosted Moodle build with a number of useful third party extensions. Moodle has a range of inbuilt standard modules including Assignment, Chat, Choice, Forum, Glossary, Lesson, Quiz, Resources, Survey and Wiki. However due to Moodle's modular and open source nature there are many third party modules that Moodle contributors have built themselves. We have a number of tested and proven modules that we install in our hosted Moodle sites. Feedback moduleThe Feedback module allows you to create and conduct surveys to collect feedback from students. It is smaller in scope and easier to use than the Questionnaire module, and unlike the Survey module allows you to write your own questions, rather than choose from a list of pre-written survey instruments. Questionnaire moduleThe Questionnaire module allows students to complete online feedback style forms using a variety of user input methods. It allows you to create your own questions, unlike the Survey module which has presets to choose from, and it allows for more advanced questionnaires than the simpler and easier Feedback module. Face-to-face moduleUseful for blended learning programmes, the Face-to-face module allows users to keep track of training events which require advance booking. Sessions can be given over multiple days, confirmation messages are sent on enrolment or cancellation and reminder messages are sent a few days before the session is scheduled to start. Book moduleThe Book module makes it easy to create multi-page resources with a book-like format which can be printed entirely or by chapter. The module is not interactive however you can link to resources from within a book and include multimedia objects. Simple Portfolio moduleWith the Simple Portfolio module each user gets an e-portfolio which is displayed as a new tab in their profile and a file repository. The portfolio holds "elements" which contain reflection, date, file attachment and a simple permission setting (private/public). It also has a block for direct access through the course area. Customised modulesWe are happy to validate other modules for our customers. We do not support all third party modules as we often find that they are not updated as regularly as Moodle itself so the latest Moodle version is not always supported. We also find that quality varies among these third party modules so we must ensure that we perform rigorous testing on any requested modules prior to deciding whether it is suitable to install or requires further work. We are also happy to quote for building modules from scratch. All these modules are available in our standard Moodle build from March 2009, click for full details on our hosting options. |
