Open source software can play a key role in improving performance support and performance management.

Tools such as Joomla and Moodle can be used to create performance support centre, by which we mean a focused set of resources, normally designed for a specific job role. A performance support centre is designed to improve performance of either a specific function or job role.

For Marks & Spencer we developed a Line Manager Performance Support zone using Moodle. This centre contained a wide range of e-learning modules designed to support them in their day jobs. Moodle allows a wide range of resources to be provided as part of a performance zone such as slides, word documents, pdfs, elearning, audio and video. Moodle also allows full tracking of user activity including any scores on assessments.

For Cable & Wireless we are developing a learning and support portal using Joomla. Joomla provides a fast way of delivering web based content and content changes.
